Welcome to Mersea Island Rowing Club
We can be found on the north side of the Thames Estuary located on Mersea Island. The club was founded in 2012 and became affiliated to British Rowing in 2013.
Mersea Island is a fantastic place to row, with miles of creeks to leisurely explore and large expanses of open water for the more adventurous.
During the winter months we try to row and train at least once a week (weather permitting), as well as this we participate in the Harker’s Yard Winter Series, where we compete against other rowing clubs in our Harker’s Yard Gig, ‘Mehalah'. This competition culminates in an awards dinner, which is great fun! In the summer we are always seen on the waters around Mersea and will soon be adding some lovely evening rows to our rowing and training schedule. We like to offer our rowers a range of experiences and therefore compete in and attend a variety of rowing events and regattas around this country and beyond; sometimes staying away. Mersea Island Rowing Club also prides itself in its social events, which include nights out and picnic rows, plus we are always open to further social event suggestions from our members.
Our next taster session will be held on the 2nd of April at 12pm
we will meet at our Club house in city road.
for more information please contact us or visit our Facebook page.
Our taster rows allow for potential rowers to get a feel for the boats, learn some basic rowing techniques and understand what is necessary to row at sea safely.
We offer the first taster row free; should you wish to come again you will be most welcome, however, we would kindly ask that you contribute £5 per session for two further rowing sessions.
If you wish to continue after three session we kindly ask you to join the rowing club as a member.
Learn to Row
Mersea Island Rowing Club offers 'Learn to Row' courses run by our qualified level 2 coach for sliding seat rowing. The courses take beginners through the basics of the British rowing sliding seat technique on rowing machines and then building on this in a range of boats from fours to singles. Learners are provided with an insight to the different aspects of rowing, sculling and coxing.
Rowing is a great way to explore Mersea Island by sea. We can guarantee if you come on one of our courses you will have a fabulous time; learning new rowing skills, meeting like-minded people and getting fit.
